Mount Baker Addition

Family with young children called for a larger entry/mudroom to help with the soggy Seattle weather and additional storage to keep everything organized. Changed front elevation and coupled the new mudroom with a cedar deck for maximum curb appeal.

Exterior

Wanting a more modern feel to their cedar shingled 1920’s home, the homeowners chose to have their new addition be a standout contrast. Bringing in large black framed picture windows from Milgard and HardiePlank lap siding complemented by cedar decking and railing and ebony stained structural beams brought fresh elements to the home.

Not only was natural light pouring in from the oversized new windows, two skylights were installed, one above the front porch and the other in the entryway, to fully brighten up the space and fight off the drearly Seattle weather.

Interior

Speaking of wanting to create a bright space, the homeowners opted for an electric yellow color in their new entryway/mudroom. Due to the rich, intense color, keeping the trim, closet doors and flooring very neutral was a must. Light grey ceramic tile with radiant heating will warm their front room warm and allow for less of a need for central air.

When installing the new window on the right side of the home, where the old front door was located, most of the original wainscotting on the living room wall had to be removed. Our owner, Andrew, took great pains to match the new trim pieces with the original 100 year old ones. The finished product was a seamless transition from new to old, making this new space look like it was always there.
